Summer Home Tour

Summer Hoe Tour

Hi guys!  I am so excited to welcome summer – it’s by far my favorite season.  Bring on the sunshine and spray paint weather! The boys have only been out of school a few weeks, but already our summer break has been crazy busy.  Obviously having my kids home really slows down my DIY projects.  And now that they’re getting older, they are involved in so many things.  I am officially a taxi cab mom and spend WAY too much time in the car.  Just this week we cut back on a lot of our activities.  I want my kids to have a real summer and have time to watch the clouds go by and catch fireflies.  Up until now, they haven’t been home long enough to even experience boredom.  I’m determined to have them experience a real summer!  All that being said, I have some DIY projects in the works, but until then, I thought it would be fun to welcome in summer with a home tour.

Welcome!

Front Door

When you walk into our home, there’s a small entryway with the office on your right and the dining room on your left.  I took over the office, so I was able to make it a little more fun than our last masculine-inspired office.

Office

The desk was left in the house, and it was an inexpensive laminate piece.  I painted it black, distressed it, and added new hardware.

Painted Desk

I really will paint anything – even my stapler.

Desk Misc

These bookshelves help fill the space for now.  Eventually, we want to add built-ins in this room.

Bookshelves

I created the large photo art piece using instagram photos, an old frame, and Mod Podge.

Office Corner

I use this dresser I chalk painted to store my art and craft supplies.

Painted Furniture

I fell in love with this sewing machine because it had our last name on it.

Sewing Machine

I love using found objects for decor.  This yellow radio was in my parent’s first home.

Decorating with old pieces

I love a formal dining room.  It makes dinner a special event.

Dining Room*

I spray-painted the chairs black and distressed them

I used chalk paint on the table.

My husband and I designed and installed the wall treatment in our dining room.

Dining Room Close Up

These plates were passed down several generations and I love having them decorate my walls.

Old Plates on Wall

When you walk through the entry, you enter our family room.  I stenciled the walls to add some interest to the neutral color scheme.

Rearranging Furniture

This is one of my favorite spaces because of all the light.

Family Room

I bought an old piano for $50 and painted it.

Yellow Painted Piano*

I occasionally change out the chalkboard above the piano.  To see my perfect chalkboard lettering tutorial you can click HERE.

On the other side of the wall, my piano sits against is our kitchen.

Subway Tile in Kitchen*

The kitchen was very dark and the floors were in horrible shape.  I painted the cabinets with chalk paint.  I also painted the floor with a faux rug. Subway Tile Backsplash

Herringbone Tile Pattern

I stenciled the wall that goes into the kitchen nook.

Mudroom-2

This shoe cubby that sits in my mudroom was one of my most exciting finds.  It was supposedly an old mail sorter in my town’s post office.

Mudroom-1

I added a fabric wall to our half bath and also created a wall treatment in the bathroom.

Easy Wall Treatment

I haven’t really decorated our master bedroom.  I hung curtains and used what we had to fill the space.  I’m planning a makeover in the near future!

Master Bedroom

As you go upstairs, we have a fairly large landing that I decided to have some fun with.

Pattern Wall with Frog Tape

I painted a swiss cross patterned wall on one wall and created a travel chalkboard/corkboard to hang as artwork.

Gold & Cream Lockers

The kids have a playroom upstairs.  (These aren’t all mine – just three of them are!)

Play Room

And I wallpapered my first wall ever in this playroom.

I painted my daughter’s furniture which was a craigslist find.

Lena's Room

I made the felt flower garland.

In our guest room, I painted a fabric headboard with chalk paint.

I stenciled the little polka dots on the main wall in the guest room.

Modify Ink

In my boys’ room, we used old barn doors we found in an old family barn for headboards.

The boys’ bathroom was the result of a fun contest I was in last spring.

Yellow piano is the best thing evaa!
I love elegant, black touches in the dining room.
Using ‘funky frames’ as actual photo frames is such a cool idea !
