Boys Bathroom Remodel

Boys Bathroom Remodel

I am in love with our boys’ bathroom remodel. We kept the same footprint of the bath to help with the budget, but we updated the walls, paint, flooring, and vanity. The cosmetic changes made a huge difference in updating the bath.

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Signature Hardware. All opinions are 100% mine.

Here’s a before of the space:

And the after:

My goal was to design a space that was masculine enough for my boys while still maintaining the sophisticated traditional style of the rest of our home. I also wanted to add the navy in their bedroom while adding some additional pops of color. Bathrooms are spaces you can have a little more fun in with patterns and color.

Obviously the centerpiece of the bathroom is the gorgeous double sink vanity. It is from Signature Hardware, and it is the Robertson Mahogany Console Double Vanity in midnight navy blue.

We added the matching Halifax Mahogany Vanity Mirror Set above the sinks.

The stunning faucets are the Rotunda Widespread Bathroom Faucet with Lever Handles, and I love their modern lines.

The vanity provides plenty of storage for the boys, and they each appreciate having their own sink. The bottom open storage provides for customizable organization. We added a basket for each boy and use the center to store towels.

I painted the toilet room a deep green (Vine Green by Behr) to add a little unexpected color (and it’s the boys’ school color).

The flooring is luxury plank vinyl which looks like wood floors, and we added a schoolhouse light and vintage artwork which adds a fun contrast to the more modern wallpaper.

The boys love their updated bathroom and promise to keep it clean, but time will tell…

Thanks so much to Signature Hardware for partnering with me on the bathroom remodel! Go check out the half bath remodel I did with them earlier this year.

Bathroom Details

Bathroom Details This post is sponsored by The Home Depot.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I recently shared the final reveal of our bathroom remodel, but today I’m sharing all the details on some of the product I used in the space (like the gorgeous navy vanity, the champagne bronze faucet and the simple mirror with gold sconces).

I bought everything I mentioned online at The Home Depot, and love that it was sent fast (and right to my front door)!  I share details for everything on The Home Depot’s blog (including product links). Go HERE to find out more!

Watch this video: I detail everything I found at The Home Depot:

This was the first home remodel I attempted solo (although I did bring in help for a few things I couldn’t manage on my own).  I completely about 90% of it on my own, and it’s still standing!  I’ll count that as a win.

How to Demo a Bathroom

Have you ever wondered how to demo a bathroom?  It may seem overwhelming, but it is not as hard as you think.  It just takes a little time and effort… Week 1 Bathroom Remodel | How to Demo a Bathroom This bathroom remodel is happening thanks to a 6 week renovation challenge with Jeffrey Court. The space is shared between my daughter and any overnight guests we may have.  Although the bathroom is not in terrible shape, it is boring and has the same cheap tile found throughout our home – big 12×12 squares with grout that was once white (and is now a gross brown).  My mission is to slowly remove this tile from our home.  It shows EVERYTHING, and I think it looks industrial, and is not something I want in my home.

My amazing friend Angela from Unexpected Elegance came over one morning, and together we began demo by removing the vanity and the toilet.

I will share more detailed tutorials (and videos) on removing a vanity and toilet, but until then, here are a few tips on both:

Removing a Vanity

  • Turn off the water and unhook the water lines under the sink.
  • Remove the top of the vanity if possible.  First check to see if any screws are holding down the top then use a razor to cut the caulk running between the counter and the wall.  This will help from dry wall damage. Once this is done, you should be able to pull the vanity up or out from the water lines.

Removing a toilet

  • Turn off the water.
  • Flush the toilet to remove as much of the water as possible from the toilet and basin.  Use a cup to remove any extra that won’t flush.
  • Remove the water line from the toilet.
  • Remove the caps from the toilet base and remove the washers holding the toilet in place.
  • Simply lift the toilet up off the wax ring.  It is helpful to have a large trash bag to lift the toilet in to to help from water getting everywhere – especially when you carry the toilet out of the home.

I used the RYOBI Hammer Drill to remove the existing tile, and I was so amazed how strong this battery-powered hammer drill is! I was able to demo the entire bathroom tile on my own with this tool.

Since the bathroom is upstairs, I removed the tiles by the bucket.  I had a few trashcans in my garage I filled with the tile.  Then we borrowed a truck and took all the debri to the dump.  We learned while remodeling our kitchen that it is SO much cheaper to take trash to the dump.  We can take up to a ton of waste for $25 to the dump compared to hundreds of dollars for renting a dumpster.  Find a friend with a truck, and make trips to the dump on your own!

After the tile is removed, the nails (or screws) need to be taken out.

Once the nails/screws are removed, clean the floors as much as possible.

Once the debris is cleaned, remove all the trim/baseboards.

Watch here to see a quick little video on how we demo’d the space:

https://youtu.be/BQWvNqwOghU We have now begun the first step of the remodel post demo, and Steve jumped in this time to help me dry fit the cement board (my arms were tired from all that tile demo and I was having trouble cutting the board)!

More to come next week! Not too long ago, we remodeled our kitchen.  To read a little bit about that kitchen demo process, go HERE.

Bathroom Remodel

After years of planning and scheming, the master bathroom remodel is (finally) complete! Bathroom Remodel with Moen I partnered with Moen on this remodel, and their faucets are definitely the centerpiece of the room. Although I love updated brass, I decided to stay safe and go with either brushed nickel or an oil-rubbed bronze finish.  I turned to you all for advice, and brushed nickel was the winner! I wanted faucets that were sophisticated and timeless, and the Weymouth Brushed Nickel Two-Handle High Arc Bathroom Faucet was love at first sight for me. The faucet’s Victorian details include porcelain inlays with the antiqued decorative script and a refined shepherd’s spout and just scream luxury. When I dreamed up our bathroom remodel design board, the first thing I searched for was a tub filler. The Weymouth Brushed Nickel Two-Handel Tub Filler is what dreams are made of.  It is absolutely stunning. The faucet includes a removable hand shower. Keeping with the sophisticated timeless look, we also used the Weymouth Brushed Nickel Posi-Temp in the shower. The lever on the showerhead makes it easy to adjust the water, and it is equipped with the PosiTemp® pressure-balancing control valve to help maintain water temperature in the shower. The showerhead is generously sized (9″ diameter) and has three times more spray power than most rainshowers for a more thorough rinse. Moen also makes gorgeous accessories including towel holders and toilet paper holders.  I found the Weymouth Brushed Nickel Posi-Tempat Home Depot, and have never loved a toilet paper holder more!  It pivots to change out the paper, so I will no longer have flying springs escaping my hold. My goal for this bathroom remodel was timeless sophistication, and I think Moen helped me achieve that goal with their gorgeous pieces. A special thanks to Moen for partnering with me on my dream bathroom! Go create something!

Bathroom Remodel Tile

I’m sharing all the details on our bathroom remodel tile today.

Bathroom Remodel - South Cypress Tile

I shared our master bath reveal earlier this week, and I have gotten so many questions about our tile.  I partnered with South Cypress, and I have had the best experience with them.

I knew I wanted a subway-tiled shower along with a black and white shower floor.  I also knew that wood floor tiles would be perfect for the space.  I began searching the South Cypress website and found so many options.

I ended up settling on the following

I ordered samples of each of the tiles and was immediately in love.

I placed my order online, and the sales associates were really helpful with questions and helping me determine how many tiles I needed.

Shipping was fast, and the tile was delivered straight to my door (actually garage).

I only had a few tiles in one box that were damaged in delivery, and South Cypress quickly sent me the replacements.

The Segato Riverwood is so gorgeous.  It has dynamic grain patterns and cross-cut texturing exquisitely mimicking the intricacies of vintage faded hardwood.  The tile is Italian-made and provides the timeworn look of aged hardwood without the upkeep headaches.  It was a perfect match for my gray vanities.

The Overton has a clean and classic look of subway tile but is extra special because of its handcrafted look.  It adds gorgeous textures with its shine reminiscent of traditional glazed ceramic tiles.

The Manhattan provides a clean, classic look.   It makes a distinctive statement in our bathroom and allowed us to create our own design.

A special thanks to South Cypress for helping me make our dream bathroom a reality!

Bathroom Remodel

Our master bathroom is DONE, and I’m excited to share our bathroom remodel reveal. This renovation was supposed to happen three years ago when we first purchased our home.  There was a major leak under the shower, and we meant to have it fixed right away… bathroom-remodel-before-sincerely-sara-d-1-2 …but life (roof repairs, pool heater, water heat, air conditioner, furnace, and lots of other 20-year-old home problems) kept happening. Over the past three years, I have shared several design board ideas for this bathroom remodel as I dreamed and schemed.  You can see the details of the design board that inspired this remodel here. bathroom-remodel-before-sincerely-sara-d-1-4 This past fall several things fell into place, and we were able to go for it.  We hired a contractor and the day after Thanksgiving we demolished the bathroom (you can read more about the demo process here). bathroom-remodel-before-sincerely-sara-d-1-5 I share the bigger bathroom sources in separate posts (go here to learn all the details about the tile and here for all the faucet details).  The majority of the supplies were bought online and shipped straight to my front door (which was so convenient). bathroom-remodel-before-sincerely-sara-d-1-6 Since this bathroom was sitting on such a large problem, I knew this was far beyond my scope of DIY.  Honestly, it was nice to hand it over to an expert. bathroom-remodel-before-sincerely-sara-d-1-7 I still did a lot of the grunt work and painted all the walls, ceilings, and trim. bathroom-remodel-before-sincerely-sara-d-1 The freestanding tub is from Signature Hardware.  I looked everywhere for the perfect shape, and I found it with this tub. The vanities are from Bellacor.  I was nervous about buying the vanities online, but they are absolutely perfect.  The color is gorgeous, and they are quality pieces.  My only complaint is that one arrived with a discolored spot, but I should be receiving paint (from the manufacturer) to fix the problem sometime soon. One of the hardest pieces for me to find was the perfect light fixture.  I wanted this light fixture from Bellacor. The sconces are from Home Depot.  I used the Fontane Brushed Nickel Wall Fixture and replaced the shade that came with it with the Clear Glass Open Teardrop Shade. The outlets and light switches are RENU by Leviton. The majority of the decor and accessories are from HomeGoods. I can not tell you all how thrilled we are to have a bathroom that functions and looks beautiful.  I may never leave my tub (and you can find all the details of the tub filler here)… We are so thankful to have a beautiful and functioning bathroom! Master Bath Remodel | Week One

Master Bath Remodel | Week One

Master Bath Remodel | Week One

The day after Thanksgiving, we starting a demo on our master bathroom (please pretend I have safety goggles in the picture above). Here is a before of the shower (problem) area:

bathroom-remodel-before-sincerely-sara-d-1-4

And here is an after (demo) photo:

sincerely-sara-d-bathroom-demo-7

We were all pretty proud of ourselves for our demo work!  As I mentioned before, we had a significant leak under our shower. So significant, we haven’t used our shower since we moved in three years ago.  Here’s what the shower leak looked like once we removed the tile:

sincerely-sara-d-bathroom-demo-5

Near the wall, you can see the support beam is rotted.

Here is a closeup:

sincerely-sara-d-bathroom-demo-6

Seeing this confirmed why were remodeling that bathroom. My amazing dad came and helped us with the demo.  He spent his birthday ripping out tile and toilets. The boys came in to inspect our work and kept safe with a nerf mask and handkerchief…

sincerely-sara-d-bathroom-demo-2

Overall, the demo went well.  There were a few minor hangups like cutting a water line and the rented jackhammer not working.  However, we charged through and are left with a bathroom ready to be remodeled.  And then we waited…

Luckily we did not have to wait too long – two weeks after the demo, the contractor arrived!

He pulled out the rotted subfloor and fixed the support beam.

img_0396

I am SO relieved to have that beam fixed.  It was so bad, our master bedroom (on the other side of this wall), had a fairly large hole into the crawl space.

img_0371

I used to imagine little mice crawling in while I slept…

Day two was spent rebuilding the subfloor and waterproofing the shower.  The contractor was so kind to bring in my bathtub.  We were a little concerned about it fitting.  Luckily it does, but it will be a tight fit.
