I recently gave our guest room a makeover (go HERE to see that makeover), and I promised to share all the details and sources for the decor pieces.
The velvet pillows are from Hobby Lobby. I randomly stumbled on them while shopping for something else (don’t forget to find their 40% off coupon on your phone for an item not on sale).
The headboard is a flea market find I found several years ago and painted – fabric and all (see the tutorial HERE)!
I found the bedding (duvet cover, shams, and sheets) at Kohls.
The brass lamp is from Target, and I love its simplicity next to my ornate headboard.
The small end table is marble and brass and is also from Target.
The oil painting was a garage sale find for only $10. The previous owner wrote a note about the artist and how she acquired the painting.
The gold pot is from Hobby Lobby and is the reason I stumbled on the pillows.
I hope you all are enjoying the holidays and gearing up for a Happy New Year! I’ll be sharing a roundup of my top five posts from 2016 later this week.

I’m excited to share our master bedroom refresh with you today.
This post was sponsored by Annie Selke as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.
We recently bought a new bed for our master bedroom. I was happy with the bed but not our old bedding.
When I was contacted about partnering with Annie Selke, I was thrilled because the timing was perfect (I could complete our bedroom refresh). I love their product and much of this has to do with the fact that Annie Selke is passionate about style, comfort, and quality. I used the Annie Selke (Autumn 2016) catalog for my bedding shopping and was excited with all the options. It took me several days to decide what to order because everything is so beautiful.
I began my bedding makeover with the gorgeous Keaton Linen Natural Shams (which also come in other color options). The linen works perfectly with the bed and the cream details compliment my comforter.
I fell absolutely in love with the Petite Ruffle Ivory Sheet Set. This sheet set is a perfect example of how much details matter in decor. It is so gorgeous.
I combined several different textures to give our bed the perfect little makeover.
The Cotton Twill Blanket in Oatmeal/Ocean provides a nice masculine touch to our feminine sheet set (the blanket has wide stripes which are so fun).
I have been wanting to tie in the large turquoise mirror on my wall (one of my very first DIY projects), and this pillow does it in beautifully. The pillow also has a fun pattern on the back if I ever feel like switching things up.

I’ve slowly been making over our master bedroom. It’s been fun to finally give the room we spend the most time in some (well deserved) attention!
One thing I’m embarrassed to admit? We have had the SAME mattress since we were first married – 14 years ago. Horrifying, I know. We decided that the most important thing in a master bedroom makeover had to be a new mattress.
We bought a Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress from Big Lots, and it is AMAZING! Not only is it incredibly comfortable, but it sits taller than our old mattress and box springs. This adds to the elegant look I’m going for with our bedroom.
We took a family trip to Big lots and tested out the mattresses. They have a large array of quality mattresses and most are in stock.
While we were there, I had to pick up some new sheets so I could dress up the new mattress.
600 thread count = luxury!
I’m a huge advocate of making your bed every day, and I think it’s worth a couple of minutes of your time before you run out the door. It’s a way of clearing the clutter and starting fresh – what a great way to start your day, right?! And when you make your bed, here are four tips to making it extra special:
Sheets are an important piece to a pretty (and comfortable) bed. I believe one of the easiest ways to make a pretty bed is to fold down the sheet and duvet/comforter. It looks inviting and adds an extra touch – and the fold requires only a few extra seconds.
Also, I’m a huge sham fan – they are both pretty and functioning. I use them when I’m sitting up and reading. Throw pillows are the final touch. You want enough to make the bed special but you don’t want so many that it’s over the top. For me, three seems to be the magic number.
Besides the mattress, the final piece to finishing up our master bedroom makeover was figuring out what to do with the blank wall when you first walk into the room. We’ve been wanting to create a small desk area to use with our laptops, and we found the perfect solution.
We created a work area with a beautiful desk we found at Big Lots.
It’s traditional with a modern twist, and it’s the perfect solution for my blank wall and need for workspace.
And, the added bonus? There are plugs and USB hubs on the back of the desk!
I bought the mattress and desk on two separate trips, and I have to tell you that the Big Lots employees were incredibly kind and helpful. They quickly let me know if my items were in stock (in both cases, they were!), and they helped me load them into my car.
During a visit to Big Lots, I found this pretty wine-inspired candle and monthly view calendar (styles and assortment vary by store.) It’s amazing what all you can find at Big Lots, and you can click HERE to see more!
And the flower vase was yet another great find from Big Lots!
My bedroom is comfortable, inviting, and functional now thanks to the furniture and home decor items I found at Big Lots! Check out Big Lots on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. What do you think of my master bedroom makeover?
