Granny Chic

Have you heard of the Granny Chic or Grandmillenial term which has recently popped up in the design world? There seems to be a modern revival of what you would typically find in your grandparents’ homes mixed with modern pieces. Because of the amount of time spent in our homes, 2020 saw a rise in nostalgia in interior design as we look for ways to make our homes cozier and more comforting and Granny Chic is now a thing.

My home may not be the perfect example of this trend, but I do tend to gravitate towards all the things that define Granny Chic:

This chandelier once hung in my grandparent’s home in Iowa, and it adds so much charm to our home.

The stark gray and white interiors which were so popular this past decade are slowly being warmed up with saturated color. Continuing with the Granny Chic design trend, textiles and draperies are making their way back into spaces. The pattern on pattern trend is a fun way to tell a unique story in your home while lifting our moods and spirits.

Don’t be afraid of wallpaper! This paper is temporary wallpaper and so easy to remove.

My personal favorite Granny chic trend is the rise in florals in design. I’ve always been a fan of florals – flowers have a long-term positive effect on moods. It just makes sense to bring flowers’ colorful, happy vibe into our homes. The new florals have a more modern approach than those we remember in our grandparents’ homes.

The floral art over the fireplace is available here on my site.

If you’re looking to add florals to your home, you must check out my floral art collection. I share all the details of that collection, and you can see more on that HERE.
