RTA Cabinets

RTA ready-to-assemble cabinets

I partnered with Best Online Cabinets and am sharing how we added storage and more functionality to our home office using RTA ready-to-assemble cabinets.

RTA (ready-to-assemble) cabinets

We used RTA cabinets in our kitchen remodel, and we like them because you can receive quality cabinets at a less expensive price since they require assembly.

I share the first phase of our home office in this post, and I am so excited to share phase two of the COMPLETED home office!

This home office will be mine during the day and my husband will be able to use it evenings and weekends. We wanted a long desk in the back for my desktop computer and decided to add a wet bar as well.

The designers at Best Online Cabinets created a rendering for us:

After seeing the rendering (which was so helpful), we were excited and ready to move forward with our cabinets!

Once the cabinet plan was determined, the order was placed. Soon after, our cabinets arrived. Unfortunately we had to ship them back because the wrong cabinets were delivered. We shipped those cabinets back, and they quickly sent the correct cabinets.

We selected Driftwood Grey Cabinets, and they are made by InnoCraft and exclusive to Best Online Cabinets.

Since we have (successfully) attempted RTA cabinets before, we were ready for the challenge. However, these cabinets came with no instructions or online tutorials. We were lucky we had assembled RTA cabinets before.

Here’s a little video of me assembling a simple top cabinet:

When assembling RTA cabinets, here are a few helpful hints:

Use Wood Glue.

The cabinets won’t come with wood glue, but we suggest using wood glue to reinforce the base of the cabinet.

Use Brackets.

Some of our cabinets came with brackets but some didn’t. We bought additional L brackets and uses them for additional reinforcement on all our cabinets.

Use a Cordless Screwdriver.

You don’t want to risk stripping the screws, so opt for a cordless screwdriver over an electric drill.

Watch Cabinet Assembly Videos.

Although some RTA cabinets come with detailed instructions, not all do. Search for cabinet assembly videos for additional help.

Assemble on a flat Surface.

Don’t try to assemble cabinets on carpet – it is important that the cabinets are square.

Assemble Similar Cabinets at Once.

Save time by assembling similar cabinets together. Assemble all the top cabinets and then the base cabinets. Save the harder cabinets (like drawer and lazy Susans) for last as you build up your expertise and confidence.

RTA cabinets require some time and energy, but the results can be beautiful. We love all the storage they provide in our home office.

We used butcher block for the counters, and I love the contrast between the lighter counters and the darker cabinets.

The base cabinets allow for a workspace and a place for my desktop (I use the desk chair and raise the height work at the counter).

We added a little mini bar to the corner of the room – complete with sink and fridge!

We love the addition of the cabinets and all the beauty and functionality they bring to our home office!

Navy Home Office Reveal

I am so excited to share our Navy Home Office Reveal!

I recently remodeled what was our kids’ playroom into a home office.

Now that our kids are getting older, a designated play area wasn’t really necessary, and my husband and I really needed a space to work.

I was excited to partner with The Home Depot on decorating this room, and every beautiful item was found online. I was able to find the perfect balance of some fun decor pieces that fit my more creative spirit while bringing in the more traditional look my husband prefers.  I managed to persuade my husband that work doesn’t need to be boring and hung this gorgeous Hoppet Blue Folk Wallpaper.

It instantly brought fun into the space.

We will be building a credenza on the wall behind the desk for my computer and storage, but we wanted a writing desk in the space and this Aldridge Antique Grey Desk is even more beautiful in person.

It is simple but sophisticated – exactly what we wanted!

The Vintage Ellie Navy Rug softens up the flooring.  It ties in the loveseat and works well with the wallpaper.

I am loving all things velvet, and this gorgeous Carlotta Emerald Velvet Club Chair is stately and so comfortable and the pop of green is perfect for the office.

Although I love them all, my favorite piece in the space is this Jack Navy Blue Tuxedo Loveseat.  It is the perfect little sofa for an office, and the navy, tufted details and velvet make for the perfect piece of furniture.

My husband always requests filing cabinets, but they are usually ugly.  I was so excited when I discovered this Aldridge Antique Grey File Cabinet – beauty and form can exist!

Our new home office came together thanks to gorgeous furniture pieces from The Home Depot! I ordered everything online, and it came right to my doorstep.  Now that is the way to shop!

Now it’s time to get to work…

Since the first of the year, I have been hard at work making over what was our kids’ toy room.  Now that they are getting older, we decided they don’t need a designated toy room.  I work from home (and would love to work somewhere outside my bedroom), and my husband likes to get caught up on work in the evenings. So, we are transforming what was the kids’ space into our home office! Here is what the room looked like before:

And here are a few progress shots:

The remodel began by removing the carpet and stripping the wallpaper. This post contains some affiliate links for your convenience. Click here to read my full disclosure policy. I used a steamer with a wallpaper attachment, and it helped the process go a little faster (go here to see the steamer link).

I added cement board in preparation for the new tile. We also painted all the trim, removed the popcorn on the slanted ceiling and painted all the walls.

I just hung the new wallpaper (follow me on Instagram for sneak peaks of my projects) and am currently working on arranging the furniture. I partnered with The Home Depot to furnish the space, and everything is perfect for the space!

I wanted a simple but large desk, and this wood desk is perfect!

When I saw this matching filing cabinet, I knew we had to have it to store all of our files.

Just because it’s an office doesn’t mean it has to be boring! Work  will be more fun with this wallpaper.

Navy + velvet is always a win, and this loveseat is more gorgeous in person!

This pretty rug instantly warms the tile.

This dark green chair is so comfortable and looks elegant (and makes me feel a little important). I will be sharing the full reveal very soon! Click on the images below for the product links.

A special thanks to The Home Depot for partnering with me on this office remodel!

Working from Home with Tivoli Audio

Last month marked three years in our home, and next month I will be celebrating my three-year blog anniversary.  As a mom of three, I love being able to work from home while doing what I love – creating.  Blogging really is my dream job, and I could not be more thankful.

My only complaint with blogging (and working from home) is solitude.  Now that my youngest is at school, I am left alone in a completely silent home (which is definitely a change after having at least one kid by my side for over the past decade).

When I was approached about partnering with Tivoli Audio, I was excited because I am constantly playing music to keep the silence away.  I fell in love with their ART Speaker.  It is a unique product that can hang on your wall like a painting or be placed on its stand as a work of art (not something you need to hide).

Set up was fairly easy and just required downloading the ART – Tivioli Audio Wireless app which walked me through the entire setup process.

Neatly hidden on the bottom of the speaker you can find all the buttons and other technical stuff.  I use an electrical outlet to power my speaker, but I love that there is an optional rechargeable battery to hang it without wires.

I pick my playlist for the day, hit play from my phone, and take away the silence through music (which is so funny to me because when my kids were home all I wanted was silence)!

You can start with a single speaker and slowly build your full home system.

Besides enjoying music while I work, I love that Tivoli Audio’s ART speaker also works for background dining music.

The office is right across from our formal dining room.  I love to play music while entertaining (especially during the holidays), and this speaker serves both the office and our dining room perfectly.

Tivoli Audio products are available around the world through a large dealer network as well as direct from their website:

I am a huge fan of the ART speaker because of its unique mix of style and sound.  I love a product that functions well, but I really love a product that functions well AND fits into my decor seamlessly.  Tivoli Audio’s speakers makes a great gift for music, radio, and podcast lover or for yourself.

Also, don’t forget to check out Tivoli Audio’s Cube Speaker. It is a simple box that can be placed anywhere and used as a single speaker or paired with other speakers (such as the ART speaker) as part of your home’s system.  It doesn’t take up much space and can be easily moved from room to room with the optional battery back and no wires.

Do you play music in your home?  I would love to know where you would put your Tivoli Audio ART (or cube!) speaker.  Don’t forget to sign up for Tivoli Audio’s emails and receive 10% off your purchase!
