I love having a smart home, and I have reviewed various smart lighting over the years. Because of all my reviews, I know what I love – and don’t love. I have tried smart bulbs which although easy to install, aren’t always reliable and often need re-programmed (especially when you have unreliable WiFi like we have). I have also used smart switches which require WiFi, which also are unreliable when your WiFi goes out.
Caséta by Lutron requires no WiFi and since it is smart lighting at the switch, you can control multiple bulbs (and a lot more control with a lot less investment).

To begin, a smart home lighting kit is needed, and the kit provides everything needed for smart lighting control: a Smart Bridge, dimmer and Pico Smart Remote.
Installing the Caséta Wireless lighting control system does require wiring a lightswitch. Lutron offers plenty of online instructions and videos if you need help, but once you have your system up and running installation is easy.
The Lutron app is simple to set up and use.
Although the app is nice (especially when you are away from home), but you don’t need an app to control Caséta. That means anyone (like babysitters or guests) can control the lights.
One of my favorite things about Caséta is that I can now easily control my wall lamps.
I LOVE decorating with wall lamps, and they are easy to install. However, they do require turning on each one using a tiny little nob. With Caséta, I can now control my wall lamps with the app or the remote.
With the click of a button, my room goes from unlit…
…to fully lit!
Caséta allows lights to turn on or off at a specific time of day.
I have our lights to come on (at 50%) at 6am every weekday.
One of my favorite features is that you can look like you’re home even when you are not. Use Smart Away to randomly turn your lights on and off throughout the evening to give the illusion that you are home — even if you’re out for the night or away for the week.
You can also control one or multiple lights at the same time by creating a scene — so you can transform a room from Game Night brightness to Movie Time mood in no time. And when it is bedtime, turn off all the lights right from your bed (which is what I do)!
